WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Congressman James Comer (KY-01) announced today Barkley Regional Airport in Paducah will receive a full, second installment of $10 million to construct a new airport terminal. These federal funds, distributed by the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), build upon the first $10 million installment secured last year as part of a larger award for the airport. Senator McConnell and Congressman Comer contacted the FAA to advocate for this funding.
“As the only congressional leader not from New York or California, I am fully aware of the importance of local hubs like the Barkley Regional Airport, which brings visitors and businesses from all over the world to Paducah. Throughout my time in the Senate, I have been proud to work with colleagues like Congressman Comer to champion projects like this terminal improvement that will provide Paducah with first-rate air infrastructure,” said Senator McConnell. “It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Paducah’s community leaders to help secure the funding that will allow for this new terminal project to progress. The Commonwealth’s economic development hinges on our ability to improve and maintain the vital supply chains that run through Kentucky and keep America on the move.”
“I’m proud to have worked closely with Senator McConnell to deliver this promised funding and move the project forward in a timely manner. This announcement is proof that the economic and infrastructure needs of West Kentucky are at the forefront of conversations in Washington,” said Congressman Comer. “This tremendous federal investment in Barkley Regional Airport is critical for transportation and job creation in West Kentucky, and further solidifies Paducah as an important economic driver in middle America.”
“On behalf of all our stakeholders, I would like to thank Senator McConnell, Congressman Comer, and everyone at the FAA for their amazing support and partnership in securing the final funding piece needed to complete our Terminal project,” said Airport Executive Director, Dennis Rouleau. “As I’ve said many times before, this project is just the beginning of transforming Barkley Regional Airport into the economic powerhouse it can be. We have a jewel of an Airport just waiting to fly!”
“Our community is grateful for the continued support of the FAA as we work to build a much needed, new terminal at Barkley Regional Airport. We appreciate the support of Senator Mitch McConnell and Congressman James Comer in securing this funding,” said Sandra Wilson, President of the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. “The news that the FAA is going to award Barkley Regional Airport the second installment of their grant of $10 million in one payment is certainly good news as this will keep the project on time and on schedule. This is in addition to the $10 million previously received. This funding request has been one of the Paducah Chamber’s top federal priorities and we are proud to be a part of assisting with this exciting new project for our area.”
