Congressman Comer has spent his life working in agriculture and advocating for Kentucky’s farmers and rural producers.

Raised in Monroe County, he studied agriculture at Western Kentucky University. He operates a family farming business and is the only former elected Commissioner of Agriculture serving in Congress.

Congressman Comer was elected to serve as Kentucky’s Commissioner of Agriculture in 2011, and inherited growing problems at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. He immediately set out to work in a bipartisan way to clean up scandal, restore confidence, and crack down on waste, fraud, and abuse at the agency. He spearheaded initiatives to grow Kentucky’s rural economy and increase opportunities for Kentucky farmers, while also standing up for taxpayers by selling unneeded equipment and returning money to the state treasury. In Congress, he served on the conference committee that negotiated the 2018 Farm Bill which helped establish a legal framework for the nation’s hemp industry. He has worked with his colleagues to support policies that increase demand for commodities by supporting year-round E15 and other biofuels, which will also lower costs for consumers. He continues to advocate for new economic opportunities for producers, responsible hemp regulations, and relief from burdensome federal mandates. Kentucky’s farmers feed and fuel America, and Congressman Comer is committed to ensuring they have a strong voice in Washington.
