Safe and reliable infrastructure is essential to Kentucky’s economic future and quality of life.
Congressman Comer works with local, state, and federal leaders to improve roads, bridges, waterways, riverports, water systems, and other critical infrastructure across Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District.
Paducah, Kentucky, is the home of the nation’s barge industry and over 1,590 miles of our nation’s navigable inland waterways system wind through Kentucky’s 1st District. These critical transportation corridors move nearly 79 million tons of freight annually and provide recreation and tourism opportunities for Kentuckians and visitors to the commonwealth. Congressman Comer has worked with leaders at all levels of government to advocate for needed changes within the Army Corps of Engineers to improve efficiency of construction projects. He has also been outspoken on maintaining national security protections under the Jones Act which prevent foreign adversaries from exploiting America’s inland waterways.
Congressman Comer has made completing the Interstate 69 corridor and constructing the I-69 Ohio River Crossing a top priority. He hosted the Department of Transportation Secretary and other top officials to view the construction site in Henderson, advocated for federal support, and worked with local leaders in Kentucky and Indiana to advance the project. He has also helped secure millions of dollars in federal funding for drinking water, wastewater, bridge, riverport, and infrastructure development projects throughout Kentucky’s 1st District.
Congressman Comer will continue working with local officials to support Kentucky’s infrastructure and eliminate unnecessary federal delays that increase costs and prevent projects from moving forward.
