About James Comer
Congressman James Comer proudly represents Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District, serving 35 counties from the Mississippi River to Central Kentucky.
Raised in Monroe County, Congressman Comer learned the value of hard work, faith, and service at an early age. After earning a degree in agriculture from Western Kentucky University, he started his first farm and built a successful business that remains rooted in Monroe County today.
Congressman Comer’s commitment to public service began in the Kentucky House of Representatives, where he served six terms and quickly earned a reputation as an effective state leader. In 2011, he was elected as Kentucky’s Commissioner of Agriculture. He championed policies that strengthened Kentucky agriculture, supported local farmers, provided students with opportunities to explore agriculture and its career pathways, and positioned Kentucky as the national leader in industrial hemp production.
Since his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016, Congressman Comer has become one of the nation’s leading conservative voices. During his time in Congress, Congressman Comer has delivered real results for Kentucky. He has secured millions of dollars for roads, bridges, ports, airports, drinking water systems, and community projects across Kentucky. He also helped negotiate and pass the 2018 Farm Bill, strengthened rural workforce development, expanded broadband access across Western Kentucky, and cut burdensome regulations for Kentucky families, farmers, and small businesses.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Congressman Comer led some of Congress’s highest-profile investigations. Under his leadership, the Committee uncovered billions of dollars in wasteful government spending, exposed widespread fraud and abuse in taxpayer-funded programs, took on Pharmacy Benefit Managers and their tactics driving up the cost of prescription drugs, held sanctuary city leaders accountable for their open-border policies, and strengthened federal programs to better serve the American people.
Congressman Comer also serves on the House Committee on Education and Workforce, where he works to expand educational opportunities, strengthen America’s workforce, protect parental rights, and equip Kentucky’s next generation with the skills needed to succeed. He has helped advance legislation to protect school meal access for Kentucky’s students and strengthen the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act.
He remains guided by his conservative principles: limited government, fiscal responsibility, and putting Kentuckians first. Congressman Comer and his wife, TJ Comer, are the proud parents of Reagan, Harlan, and Aniston.
