WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman James Comer (KY-01) has announced that Gideon Richards, an 11th grader at the Central Kentucky Career Academy in Campbellsville, is the 2019 winner of the 1st District Congressional App Challenge.

Richards, a native of Columbia, developed the winning app titled “Inspiration” as part of a school project, led by his teacher Mrs. Sonya Kessler. The app inspires people to achieve their goals in life, whether big or small, by displaying inspirational quotes.

“I want to congratulate Gideon on this extraordinary accomplishment, which put his critical thinking, creativity, and intelligence on full display,” Congressman Comer said. “Gideon is one of the best and brightest of the 1st Congressional District, and I hope his interest in technology and student involvement is an example for all of his peers.”

The Congressional App Challenge was created to help promote student interest in STEM skills, specifically computer science and coding. The competition is open to students in grades 6th through 12th across the 1st District. For more information on the competition, you can visit comer.house.gov.
