WASHINGTON—Today, House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) and Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Ranking Member Steve Scalise (R-La.) blasted the World Health Organization’s report on the origins of COVID-19, emphasizing the report’s conclusions were compromised by the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to manipulate the facts and avoid blame for the pandemic.

“The World Health Organization’s report is nothing more than a product of China’s propaganda machine. From the onset of this investigation, the Chinese Communist Party was given permission by the WHO to manipulate the report’s data, exclude American scientists, and produce the report’s final conclusions. This is a blatant attempt by China to alter reality and hide the truth,” said Ranking Member Comer. “The WHO is undeniably complicit in the CCP’s cover-up, and American taxpayers should not be expected to continue propping up a compromised organization in obvious need of reform.”

“The WHO report should be considered nothing less than a piece of CCP propaganda and its conclusions must be questioned,” said Republican Whip and Select Subcommittee Ranking Member Scalise. “By allowing China to control every aspect of this investigation, the WHO continues to shield the CCP from any accountability for lying to the world about the origins of COVID-19 and creating a pandemic that has killed millions worldwide. President Biden must demand more from an organization that refuses to uncover the truth rather than provide taxpayer dollars with no strings attached.”

On January 20, Comer and Scalise blasted President Biden’s decision to have the United States rejoin the WHO without the organization first undergoing necessary reforms.
