WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman James Comer released the following statement after voting no on proposals passed on Thursday by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives to weaken the Second Amendment.

“As a strong supporter of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, I will never support efforts by liberal politicians like Nancy Pelosi to infringe on the fundamental right to gun ownership. The gun control measures passed by the House would weaken the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens while proving ineffective at keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals.

Criminalizing private gun transfers, delaying the lawful sale of firearms, and moving toward a national registry would create barriers to gun ownership without accomplishing the stated objective of reducing gun violence. I am proud to stand with both my constituents and the United States Constitution in voting no on these radical proposals, which should be dead on arrival in the Senate.”

In addition to voting against the anti-gun measures, Congressman Comer also spoke on the House floor in defense of the Second Amendment. You can watch his full speech here.
