WASHINGTON- Today, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) published an op-ed highlighting the accomplishments of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability during the 118th Congress. As Chairman of the Committee, Congressman Comer restored the House Oversight Committee to its proper role of rooting out waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government and holding the Biden-Harris Administration accountable.

Representing Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District in our nation’s capital is an honor. In addition to representing our district, my colleagues elected me to serve as the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.

Since Democrats failed to conduct any oversight over the Biden-Harris Administration in the 117th Congress, our plate was full. I recognized we had to move quickly.

In January 2023, I pledged to return the House Oversight Committee to its proper role of rooting out waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government and holding the Biden-Harris Administration accountable.

I am proud to report that we have succeeded.

Since the start of the 118th Congress, the committee has held over 130 oversight hearings with over 100 government witnesses to date. We also issued more than 50 subpoenas and sent over 600 investigative letters to hold the Biden-Harris Administration accountable.

Yet it’s not just about the numbers though; it’s about the results.

Our effective, targeted oversight has led to transparency, accountability, and solutions for the American people.

The Oversight Committee exposed President Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s multimillion-dollar influence peddling schemes and sent criminal referrals to the Department of Justice recommending prosecution of his son and brother for their lies to Congress to protect the “Big Guy.”

I also introduced the Presidential Ethics Reform Act, a landmark bipartisan bill that delivers the transparency and accountability the American people deserve to ensure our public offices are not for sale.

The Oversight Committee uncovered deliberate, anticompetitive tactics pushed by Pharmacy Benefit Managers and is working to hold them accountable for their role in rising drug costs.

The Oversight Committee heard directly from Chief Patrol Agents who highlighted Biden-Harris policies that are currently fueling the worst border crisis in U.S. history, and we brought their words and recommendations to solve the border crisis directly to you.

The Oversight Committee forced U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign after the Secret Service’s historic failures to prevent the attempted assassination of President Trump.

The Oversight Committee provided recommendations to protect taxpayer dollars from waste, fraud, and abuse in pandemic-era unemployment relief programs.

The Oversight Committee pushed the Biden-Harris Administration to increase in-person work at federal agencies to ensure they were meeting their missions.

The Oversight Committee held Biden-Harris Administration officials accountable for implementing a radical environmental agenda that is jeopardizing jobs, energy security, and national security.

Here is the bottom line: effective oversight works.

It works to expose and prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. It works to safeguard your taxpayer dollars. It works to make the federal government more effective and efficient for you.

Republicans made a commitment in the 118th Congress to restore accountability—not only with the Oversight Committee, but the entire House of Representatives. And that’s what we have accomplished.

But now is not the time to let off the gas.

Waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government still runs rampant.

I remain committed to using the power of the Oversight Committee to protect your taxpayer dollars, prevent waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government and ensure that the policies of the government address the critical concerns of the American people.

You deserve nothing less.
