WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced that the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act of 2026 (H.R. 6983), as passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, includes $1 million in federal funding to modernize critical pipeline infrastructure in Henderson, Kentucky. This funding bill now advances to the U.S. Senate for consideration. Congressman Comer led efforts in Congress to secure funding for the Henderson Water Utility Raw Water Intake and Pipeline Project, which will upgrade existing infrastructure to improve reliability and avoid millions of dollars in unnecessary construction costs.

“I’m proud to have worked alongside local leaders to support this critical water infrastructure project in Henderson that will strengthen reliability and service for families and businesses. These upgrades improve system reliability and provide emergency backup capabilities for the area. I will continue working in Congress to support smart infrastructure investments that benefit Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District,” said Congressman Comer.

“A $1 million Community Project Funding request secured through Congressman James Comer’s office will allow Henderson Water Utility to begin the first phase of a major infrastructure project to modernize the South Raw Water Intake and construct 6,000 feet of new pipeline to the South Water Treatment Plant. This investment will strengthen system reliability and increase capacity, benefiting major industrial customers, local communities, and approximately 15,000 residential customers served by the south system. We are very excited to work with Congressman Comer’s office as we move forward with this important project to upgrade critical water infrastructure,” said Bart Boles, Henderson Water Utility Manager.

Background:

This project will upgrade an existing raw water intake on the Green River and construct 6,000 feet of 24-inch pipeline to the South Water Treatment Plant. The plant supplies treated water to a large Tyson Foods facility, the City of Sebree, Beech Grove, Columbia Sportswear Distribution, AMG Aluminum, and 15,000 residential customers. Located at the former Big Rivers Generating facility, it will be retrofitted with energy-efficient pumps, VFDs, and electrical components meeting current and future demand. The pipeline improves reliability, includes emergency bypasses, and ties into two power sources. Intake upgrades will save $4 million over the new construction alternative.
