March 7, 2019
Press Release

Congressman James Comer (KY-01) is pleased to announce the start of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition. The United States House of Representatives hosts this competition each year to recognize talented young artists from across the country.

High School students in the 1st District of Kentucky are encouraged to participate. The winning artwork of the 1st District's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page. The second-place winner’s artwork will be displayed in Congressman Comer’s office for the year.

The first-place winner, in addition to having their art hanging in the Capitol all year, will receive two roundtrip Southwest airline tickets to come to a reception in Washington, D.C. in June. Also, winners can receive a $3,000 yearly scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) or Tennessee Wesleyan College.

All entries are due on April 26th. Entries can be sent to the District Office in Tompkinsville. Entries can also be dropped off at the Paducah or Madisonville offices, if you call ahead of time. For more information on the rules and where to send the artwork, you can visit Congressman Comer’s website and the art competition page located here.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a chance for the gifted students of the 1st Congressional District to showcase their talents. I encourage students to participate, and I look forward to seeing all of the artwork,” said Rep. Comer.
