WASHINGTON–Today, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) released the following statement after President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for Kentucky in response to recent catastrophic flooding that has devastated communities across the Commonwealth:

“President Trump and his administration have taken decisive action today by approving a major disaster declaration for Kentucky, unlocking critical federal resources to support our communities in the wake of devastating flooding. This recent flooding has caused heartbreaking damage and disrupted the lives of countless Kentuckians. I am deeply grateful for President Trump’s leadership, support, and commitment to the people of Kentucky. The resources made available today through this declaration will play a vital role in emergency response, debris removal, and the long road to recovery. My office remains in constant communication with local officials throughout Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District, and we will continue working around the clock to ensure our families and communities get the help they need and deserve.”

In a letter to President Trump on April 14th, Congressman Comer and Kentucky’s federal delegation expressed their support for Governor Andy Beshear's request for a major disaster declaration for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Today’s federal declaration unlocks funding through the Individual Assistance (IA) program, enabling individuals affected by the flooding to receive reimbursement for essential expenses and serious needs not covered by insurance or other forms of aid. Eligible assistance may include rental support, home repairs or replacement, temporary lodging, and other critical expenses.
